3300 Days

Ensure climate initiatives at the community level and advocacy.

ISHAKA 2250 needs funding and permanent partners for the 2030 Agenda time. Let us together secure a better and sustainable future.

Given that on December 19th , it will be 3300 days from 2030; we judged it useful to alert everyone so that everyone should feel the responsibility and the emergency to contribute to the well-being of the Sustainable Development accordingly to the 2030 Agenda through climate initiatives.

Background and Rationale

The event is scheduled for December 19, 2020 and is entitled – 3300 Days.

The reason for this name is to remember that only 3300 days remain in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals on 19th December 2020.

The bright and great side is that everyone should be involved in the SDGs achievement. We plan to organize this kind of event after every 100 days from which the next event will be 3200 Days.

Our goal is to collaborate for the achievement of the Goals as fortunately requires the 17th SDG for the well being of future generations.

Details of the Event

a) Planting Trees and Climate Education to the Community

The event will start with 500 trees planting with local population in Bujumbura Rural: at BISEKURU for the protection of environment. After, we will explain to the local community the difference between SDG 13, SDG14 and SDG15, their interconnections on actions and disadvantages of one to another.

Nature is suffering and is clearly urging a call to action. In order to contribute to the fight against climate change, various activities are in place, notably the revegetation of the foothills of Mumirwa, the watersheds of Lake Tanganyika and along the rivers and streams crossing the city of Bujumbura in order to reduce and if possible eradicate the various climatic hazards (floods, landslides, bacterial and vectorial diseases as well as other resulting effects) and the elimination of waste (especially plastic and sachets) and invasive plants in order to contribute to the protection of Lake Tanganyika and its biodiversity.

Educate local population on the action you do, is to involve everyone in the achievement of Greening the whole country and inspiring the region.

So during the event, we shall emphasize this message after planting trees.

b) Advocacy on Renewable Energy and Fossil Fuel

If we don’t act now, it may be late later.

We plan to lunch series of message in big papers against fossil fuel, promoting renewable energy for the well being of the climate action.

We’d prefer a global network to amplify our voice over the continent.

Burundi is almost untapped in the field of renewable energy, hence its great potential in this area. More than 80% of the energy used at the national level comes from hydropower. According to a recent bibliographical study, there are 156 potential sites and 29 existing sites or sites in the process of being equipped. Today, less than 30 sites are in operation.

Currently, solar energy (use of solar panels) is starting to take a place in rural communities but at a very low rate because of low income. However, the exploitation of solar energy in Burundi is therefore an interesting solution.

Wind energy is hardly used in Burundi. There are only two mechanical wind turbines that have been installed in the Imbo plain for several decades.

Despite the country’s potential for geothermal energy production, this sector is not exploited.
The same applies to energy from biomass. Urban waste, peat and bio-gases.

If everyone is involved, this climate crisis will be a story.
