ISHAKA 2250 is a nonprofit youth organization dedicated to promoting SDGs Education in Burundi and measures to empower youth in SDGs achievement, highlighting the importance of young people in the development of society and the country in general. ISHAKA 2250 started planning her activities in December 2019 for the year 2020. Achieving her objectives? Burundian youth keep their fingers crossed for it.
Burundi population is estimated at 11.8 million of people in 2020 and 90% live in rural areas. Two in three Burundians are under 25, while adolescents and young people aged 10 to 24 represent more than 34% of the population. If this 34% is aware of the Sustainable Development Goals, we will have a majority of the SDG focal points in the community and this may fortunately have the effect of influencing the region to be inculcated on SDGs.
We need a new generation that is aware of the SDGs and who can at their time, inherit their children and finally the total assurance of sustainable development. Major investments will be needed to accelerate the 2030 Agenda and benefit the people with SDGs as their culture. However, Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world. In fact, it ranks 185th out of 189 countries on the Human Development Index, while 55.4% of young people are unemployed.
To solve this, ISHAKA 2250 is dedicated to promoting the education of the SDGs in the Burundian community, GBV awareness from an early age, creation of SDGs modules in the context of Burundi and the greater involvement of Resolution 2250.
ISHAKA 2250 needs funding and partners operating in SDGs sector for well being of the achievement of 2030 Agenda. Together, Let’s make the future better and sustainable.
