Strengthening community and school initiatives
for awareness and resilience of the
Sustainable Development Goals in Burundi.
ISHAKA 2250 is a non-profit youth organization dedicated to promoting SDGs Education in Burundi and measures to empower youth in SDGs achievement, highlighting the importance of young people in the development of society and the country in general. Founded by Audry Rusangwa in June 2019, inspired by the Resolution 2250 little known by its beneficiaries: Youth, we found the same challenges for SDGs.
In Burundi and all over the world, the young people are majority of the world population, but the role they have in decision-making bodies is minimal, even invisible, because there are countries where they are not even represented and when represented, they have no real power to impose their will.
SDGs Education in the School
Training workshop on SDGs for opinion leaders: Directors and teachers, class representatives, students, certain schools: direct visits to schools (Give flyers, SDG leaflet, posters, banners, stand roll and SDGs modules).
SDGs Education in Community
Training workshops for peer educators (out-of-school youth, men and women) The Sketches on raising awareness of the SDGs and award-winning questions and answers to check and compare the level of understanding according to the sector visited.
Social Cohesion / Peacebuilding
Young people are both actors and victims of conflicts in Africa, this cycle can end if they are sensitized by the right person. Activities like inter-neighbourhood football matches, games and gender equality issues will probably be imperative.
Radio and TV Program on SDGs
Our objectives to reach a majority of the population, radio is a medium more picked up by people who live in rural areas which concentrate more than 90% of the Burundian population.
Climate Action Initiatives
The government has put a lot of effort into raising awareness and even giving the example to the population of how to save nature by planting trees, avoid erosion and natural disasters. The work is far from over.
